Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, set in the beautiful Kashmir Valley. Srinagar is best known for its stunning natural landscapes which includes verdant mountains, valleys, gardens including the largest tulip garden in Asia and glistening lakes including the famous Dal Lake with its pretty houseboats. There are many important historic sites and monuments to discover in Srinagar. The Jami Masjid is one to note, dating back to the 14th century. It’s the largest mosque in Kashmir, featuring Indo-Saracenic architecture. The panoramic hilltop Shankaracharya temple is another ancient landmark of Srinagar which is believed to be the site where famous Indian philosopher Adi Shankaracharya meditated.
Srinagar generally has a pleasant climate, but the best time to visit is between April and September. April marks the beginning of Kashmir’s summer season when the entire valley becomes filled with colourful flowers and blossoms.
